Young learner English teacher profile from students' perspective

    No full text
In this study, a young learner (YL) English teacher profile from students' perspective was investigated. Data were collected from a total of 544 fourth grade students aged 10-11 in the city center of Nevşehir, Turkey. The findings of this study provided invaluable implications for the process of developing teacher education programs and evaluating teacher performance in Teaching English to Young Learners (TEYL). Araştırma, dilsel ve iletişimsel özelliklerin yanında, dönüt verme toplantılarını etkili kılan danışman davranışlarını da ortaya çıkarmıştır.ABSTRACT: This study aims at analyzing supervisory talk and student- teachers' interpretations of it in order to find out the qualities that characterize successful supervision which leads to a change in student- teachers' beliefs. To achieve this, supervisory feedback sessions with four supervisors were recorded, transcribed and then analyzed for linguistic and interactional features that appeared in conversations in these sessions. To have a deeper understanding of how the student- teachers perceive the feedback sessions, they were asked to fill in a feedback form after each session. The student-teachers were also interviewed regarding the effectiveness of their feedback sessions with their supervisors. By triangulating the data gathered from the analysis of transcriptions with student-teachers' interpretations compiled from feedback forms and interviews, key conversational features with specific reference to speech acts associated with successful supervision were identified. In addition, supervisor behaviors that student-teachers view as most contributing to the success of the supervisory feedback sessions were also discussed

PURPOSE. The aim of this study was to evaluate the microshear bond strength (mu SBS) of four computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) blocks repaired with composite resin using three different surface treatment protocols. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Four different CAD/CAM blocks were used in this study: (1) flexible hybrid ceramic (FHC), (2) resin nanoceramic (RNC), (c) polymer infiltrated ceramic network (PICN) and (4) feldspar ceramic (FC). All groups were further divided into four subgroups according to surface treatment: control, hydrofluoric acid etching (HF), air-borne particle abrasion with aluminum oxide (AlO), and tribochemical silica coating (TSC). After surface treatments, silane was applied to half of the specimens. Then, a silane-containing universal adhesive was applied, and specimens were repaired with a composite, Next, mu SBS test was performed. Additional specimens were examined with a contact profilometer and scanning electron microscopy. The data were analyzed with ANOVA and Tukey tests. RESULTS. The findings revealed that silane application yielded higher mu SBS values (P<.05). All surface treatments were showed a significant increase in mu SBS values compared to the control (P<.05). For FHC and RNC, the most influential treatments were AlO and TSC (P<.05). CONCLUSION. Surface treatment is mandatory when the silane is not preferred, but the best bond strength values were obtained with the combination of surface treatment and silane application. HF provides improved bond strength when the ceramic content of material increases, whereas AlO and TSC gives improved bond strength when the composite content of material increases

Investigation of Energy Efficient and Earthquake Resistant Rehabilitation Methods in Existing Residential Buildings

Many studies are carried out in the rehabilitation of existing residential buildings, addressing the energy released during the pre-construction, construction, use and demolition stages of the building and circularity. Furthermore, in Türkiye, earthquakes are one of the primary influencers impacting the lifespan of buildings. However, a limited number of studies take a holistic approach, integrating both energy efficiency and earthquake resistance in existing residential buildings. To promote awareness on the subject, it is aimed to systematically examine the rehabilitation methods in reinforced concrete residential buildings. Seven studies were reviewed through literature analysis to investigate structural strengthening methods, energy efficient improvement techniques and their costs. The studies concluded that rehabilitation and strengthening were carried out in the structure and different building elements, and energy costs were reduced. Based on the data obtained, the steps to be followed in rehabilitating the residential buildings in this context were determined
